Homemade Calamine Lotion

A soothing, all-natural homemade calamine lotion to help relieve itchy skin from bug bites, rashes, and minor irritations, easy to make with simple ingredients.
Yield: 4 ounces

Materials

  • 2 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 2 tbsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp pink kaolin clay
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup witch hazel
  • 10-15 drops essential oils optional
  • 1 tsp carrier oil

Instructions

  • Combine the bentonite clay, sea salt, pink kaolin clay, and baking soda.
  • If using essential oils, add the drops into the carrier oil, then mix with the dry ingredients.
  • Slowly add in the witch hazel until it forms a smooth paste.
  • Add one drop of essential oil and stir until combined.
  • To Use: Rub on bug bites or any itchy spot and leave for a few minutes. Then wash off.

Notes

  • Essential oils are optional. Lavender, peppermint, or chamomile are great for itch.
  • You can use a hydrosol or water instead of witch hazel but it will only last a week or so if left in the fridge. Witch hazel can help it last around a month or longer. If it looks different than normal or moldy, toss it out.
