Homemade Calamine Lotion Recipe

Ingredients

Instructions:

1. Combine the Dry Ingredients

Combine the bentonite clay, sea salt, pink kaolin clay, and baking soda in a bowl. These ingredients help create the base for your calamine lotion, providing soothing and detoxifying properties to your skin.

2. Add Essential Oils (Optional)

If using essential oils, add the drops into the carrier oil, then mix with the dry ingredients.

3. Slowly Add Witch Hazel

Gradually add the witch hazel to the dry ingredients while stirring until you have a smooth paste. Witch hazel great for soothing irritated skin, and also helps extend the shelf life of your calamine lotion.

4. Stir It All Together

Add one more drop of essential oil to the mixture and give it a final stir to ensure everything is well combined.

How to Use Your Homemade Calamine Lotion

Simply apply it to any itchy areas, bug bites, rashes, or irritated skin. Leave it on for a few minutes to let it work, then rinse off with cool water. The soothing ingredients will help calm your skin, providing some relief from itching and irritation.

  • If you don’t have witch hazel, you can substitute it with hydrosol or water. However, if you choose this option, store your lotion in the fridge, as it will only last about a week. Witch hazel helps preserve your lotion for a month or more.
  • Make sure to keep your lotion in a clean, airtight container.
