This tallow eczema salve is rich, soothing, and made with calming herbs like chamomile, calendula, and marshmallow root infused into jojoba oil.

The texture is soft, creamy, and deeply moisturizing without feeling overly greasy.

Homemade Eczema Salve with Tallow

Makes about 5 ounces.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup tallow
  • 2 tablespoons herbal infused oil
  • Chamomile
  • Marshmallow root
  • Calendula
  • Jojoba oil
  • 20 drops essential oils (optional)

How to Make the Herbal Infused Oil

1. Fill the Jar with Herbs

Fill a clean glass jar about halfway with chamomile, marshmallow root, and calendula. Cover the herbs completely with jojoba oil.

You can let the herbs infuse naturally for 2–4 weeks in a cool dark place, shaking occasionally, or use the quicker double boiler method if you don’t want to wait.

2. Infuse the Oil

For a faster infusion, gently heat the herbs and jojoba oil in a double boiler on low heat for 2–4 hours.

Once finished, strain the oil well before using it in the salve.

How to Make the Eczema Salve

1. Melt the Tallow and Infused Oil

Add the tallow and herbal infused oil to a double boiler or heat-safe bowl over simmering water. Heat gently until fully melted and combined.

2. Add Essential Oils (Optional)

Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly for a few minutes. Stir in the essential oils if using.

Lavender or frankincense can be good, but the salve also works unscented.

3. Pour into Jars

Pour the salve into a clean jar or tin container. Allow it to cool completely, then gently stir once if needed for a smoother texture.

The finished salve should feel creamy, rich, and easy to apply.

Notes

Store your homemade eczema balm in a cool, dry place.

Because this recipe is made with natural oils and tallow, the texture may soften in warmer temperatures and firm up in cooler temperatures, which is completely normal.
