If you’re anything like me, you want to enjoy summer evenings without getting eaten alive by mosquitoes 😭 I also try to avoid super strong chemical bug sprays whenever possible. So I decided to try making these homemade bug repellent wipes and honestly I’m obsessed.

They’re refreshing, perfect for camping or to keep at home, and made with simple non toxic ingredients I already keep at home.

These DIY bug repellent wipes are made with witch hazel and essential oils like citronella, tea tree, and lemongrass all known for their strong fresh scent that bugs hate. Plus they smell SO much better than traditional bug sprays.

Homemade Bug Repellent Wipes Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup witch hazel
  • 1 cup water
  • 10 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 8 drops lemongrass essential oil
  • 12 drops citronella essential oil
  • Cloths (I used about 8 reusable cloth wipes)

How to Make DIY Bug Repellent Wipes

1. Add the Cloth Wipes

Place your reusable cloth wipes into a clean 16 oz glass jar or airtight container.

2. Mix the Essential Oils and Witch Hazel

In a separate bowl or measuring cup, combine the witch hazel with the tea tree, lemongrass, and citronella essential oils. Stir or shake well to evenly distribute the oils.

3. Pour the Mixture Over the Wipes

Add the water to the witch hazel mixture, then carefully pour everything over the cloth wipes until fully saturated.

4. Seal and Store

Close the jar tightly and store in the refrigerator to keep the wipes fresh.

5. Shake Before Each Use

Gently shake the container before using to help redistribute the essential oils throughout the wipes.
