This homemade stain remover stick is about to become your new best friend in the laundry room. It’s natural, easy to use, and actually works. I’m using it to replace all the store-bought sprays I used to keep under the sink.

By the way, I just got this month’s Simply Earth box, and it’s perfectly timed because it’s all about homemade NON-TOXIC laundry products! It comes with everything you need to start making your own, like essential oils, castile soap, detergent sheets, multi-purpose cleaning tablets, and a few other extras to help us switch to a more natural laundry routine. It also includes a free essential oils course, which comes with your first box!

I received four essential oils in this month’s box, which is kind of amazing considering I used to pay over $10 each. So yeah… this is a pretty great deal in my opinion.

Stain Remover Stick Recipe

This recipe makes about 2–3 tubes (depending on your container) and it WORKS. I’ve been reaching for it every time I stain something or when my dogs do, no more using toxic sprays.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

1. Melt the Castile Bar Soap

Grate the bar soap and melt it slowly using a double boiler. Don’t worry if it doesn’t fully melt—it’ll soften enough to work with.

Tip: If you over melt it and it gets clumpy, just chop it into fine pieces. It still works like a dream!

Send it to yourself now and try it out when you’re ready!

2. Mix in the Cleaning Boosters

Once your soap is softened, stir in the washing soda, borax, liquid castile soap, and water. Stir quickly to combine everything.

3. Add Essential Oils

Now’s the time to add in about 15 drops of essential oils if you want that fresh scent boost. Citrus blends work especially well here!

4. Pour and Set

Scoop the mixture into your containers, pressing it down as you go. Let them cool for a few hours to firm up.

How to Use Stain Remover Stick

Wet the top of the stick, rub it directly onto your stain, and let it sit for an hour. Then toss it in the wash like normal.

Notes:

  • If your soap gets too clumpy while melting, don’t worry, it still works just fine.
  • Citrus essential oils help cut grease and lift stains, but the stick works without them too.
  • I like keeping one of these near the laundry basket so I don’t forget to treat stuff right away.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup bar Castile soap
  • 2 tbsp washing soda
  • 2 tbsp borax
  • 1 tbsp liquid castile soap
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 15 drops essential oils optional
  • Container

Instructions

  • Grate up the castile bar soap. Then slowly melt in a double broiler. It will not melt all the way, but it will melt down some.
  • Once melted down, add in the washing soda, borax, liquid castile soap, and water.
  • Stir quickly right away to incorporate it all together. Then add in your drops of essential oils if using.
  • Put into your containers and pat down to get it all inside. Let cool for a few hours.
  • To Use: Wet the top of the stick and rub on your stain. Leave for an hour, then wash.

Notes

  • If you over melt the castile bar soap, it will be very clumpy. If that is the case, you can simply chop it up to fine pieces and it will incorporate just fine.
  •  Essential oils are optional, but citrus ones work great!
