I love making homemade skincare products, and this Tallow Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm has become one of my favorites. It’s rich, moisturizing, smells warm and cozy, and honestly just makes me happy every time I use it.
The best part is that it only takes a few simple ingredients and about 10 minutes to make.

I don’t know what it is about fall, but it makes me want to make everything cozy. Homemade candles, body butters, whipped tallow balms… and of course, a tallow pumpkin spice lip balm.
Ever since moving to New York, I’ve really noticed how much the cooler weather dries out my skin and lips, so this has quickly become one of my favorite little recipes to keep in every bag.
Tallow Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm Recipe
Makes: 8–10 lip balms
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons tallow
- 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
- 1 tablespoon beeswax
- 3 drops ginger essential oil
- 2 drops sweet orange essential oil
- 1 drop cinnamon leaf essential oil
- 1 drop nutmeg essential oil

Instructions:
1. Melt Everything Together
Add the tallow, jojoba oil, and beeswax to a double boiler. Stir everything together until it’s completely melted and smooth.

Want to save this for later?
2. Add the Essential Oils
Take the mixture off the heat and let it cool for just a couple of minutes. Then stir in the ginger, sweet orange, cinnamon leaf, and nutmeg essential oils.

If you want to give your lip balm a pretty fall-inspired tint, add a tiny pinch of orange mica powder.

3. Pour into Lip Balm Tubes
While the mixture is still liquid, carefully pour it into your lip balm tubes.

4. Let Them Cool
Leave the lip balms alone for about an hour until they’re completely set. Once they’ve hardened, they’re ready to use!

Notes:
- If you love a glossier finish, swap the jojoba oil for castor oil.
- No tallow? Coconut oil works too.
- The essential oils are used at a gentle 0.5% dilution.
