This homemade Fall Room Spray is one of the easiest ways to bring that cozy feeling into your home without having to keep a candle burning.

It smells warm, spicy, slightly citrusy, and woodsy thanks to a blend of cedarwood, sweet orange, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pine essential oils.

The sweet orange keeps the scent from feeling too heavy, while cedarwood and pine give it that crisp, outdoorsy fall feeling.

Then the cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg bring in all those cozy spices that immediately make me think of autumn.

I love keeping a bottle around to spritz whenever I want the house to feel a little more inviting specially before guests come over, after cleaning, or when I’m having one of those cozy evenings at home.

Fall Room Spray Recipe

Makes one 8-ounce spray bottle

Materials

  • 4 teaspoons witch hazel or vodka
  • 40 drops cedarwood essential oil
  • 30 drops sweet orange essential oil
  • 20 drops clove bud essential oil
  • 10 drops nutmeg essential oil
  • 8 drops cinnamon essential oil
  • 10 drops pine essential oil
  • Distilled water to fill (about 14 tablespoons, or just shy of 1 cup)
  • 8-ounce spray bottle

Instructions

1. Make Your Fall Essential Oil Blend

Add the cedarwood, sweet orange, clove bud, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pine essential oils to the witch hazel or vodka.

Send it to yourself now and try it out when you’re ready!

The witch hazel or vodka helps disperse the essential oils throughout the spray rather than adding them directly to the water.

2. Pour It Into Your Bottle

Pour the mixture into your glass spray bottle and gently swirl it around to combine everything.

3. Fill With Distilled Water

Top off the bottle with distilled water, leaving a little bit of space at the top. You’ll need approximately 14 tablespoons, or just shy of 1 cup, depending on your bottle.

Leaving a little room makes it much easier to shake the spray before using it.

4. Shake and Spritz

Secure the spray top and give the bottle a really good shake.

Spritz it around your home whenever you want an instant little dose of fall. I especially love using it in the living room, entryway, bathroom, or anywhere that could use a quick refresh.

Just remember to shake well before every use, since essential oils naturally separate from water.

Notes:

  • Clove and cinnamon are considered “hot” essential oils, so I keep this blend strictly as a room spray. I wouldn’t use it on the skin or spray it onto fabrics that regularly touch the skin, such as pillowcases.
  • Because the essential oils and water will naturally separate, always give your bottle a good shake before spraying.
  • Store your Fall Room Spray away from direct sunlight to help preserve the scent for longer.
  • I also recommend avoiding spraying it directly onto wood furniture, delicate surfaces, or fabrics that could potentially stain.
  • And if you love fall scents but prefer something a little more subtle, simply cut all of the essential oil amounts in half. You’ll still get that beautiful autumn scent, just in a softer version.
