These tallow conditioner bars combine tallow, cocoa butter, argan oil, and conditioning ingredients to create a rich little bar that glides over wet hair and leaves it feeling soft and manageable.
I’ve been slowly replacing more of my everyday beauty products with simple homemade versions, and conditioner bars have been such a fun one to make.
They’re compact, easy to use, and there’s something so satisfying about having a little solid conditioner bar sitting in the shower instead of another plastic bottle.
And if you already love using tallow in homemade skincare, this is another way to incorporate it into your beauty routine!

This recipe makes about 2 conditioner bars if you’re using the same silicone mold I used.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons BTMS-50
- 1 tablespoon cetyl alcohol
- 1 tablespoon tallow
- 1 teaspoon cocoa butter
- 2 teaspoons argan oil
- 10–15 drops essential oil total
- Silicone mold

Instructions:
1. Combine the Conditioner Bar Ingredients
Add the BTMS-50, cetyl alcohol, tallow, cocoa butter, and argan oil to a heat-safe container.

I like getting everything into the container before I start heating so the ingredients can slowly melt together.
2. Gently Melt Everything Together
Place the container over a double boiler and heat gently until all of the ingredients are completely melted.
Want to save this for later?
Give the mixture an occasional stir as it melts. You want everything to look smooth and evenly combined with no little pieces of wax or butter remaining.
3. Let the Mixture Cool Slightly
Once everything has melted, remove the container from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
You don’t want to wait so long that it begins to solidify, but giving it a few minutes to cool before adding your essential oils is a good idea.
4. Add Your Essential Oils
Stir in 10–15 drops of essential oil total, along with a preservative if you’ve decided to use one.

You can customize the scent depending on what you like. Lavender, rosemary, cedarwood, or a combination can all work beautifully in a hair-care bar.
5. Pour Into the Molds
Carefully pour the melted conditioner mixture into your silicone molds.

Let the bars sit undisturbed and harden completely overnight. Once they’re firm, gently pop them out of the mold.
And that’s it — your homemade tallow conditioner bars are ready for the shower!

Tallow Conditioner Bar
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons BTMS-50
- 1 tablespoon cetyl alcohol
- 1 tablespoon tallow
- 1 teaspoon cocoa butter
- 2 teaspoons argan oil
- 10-15 drops essential oil total
- Silicone mold
Instructions
- Add the BTMS-50, cetyl alcohol, tallow, cocoa butter, and argan oil to a heat-safe container.
- Melt gently using a double boiler until smooth.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in essential oils and preservative if using.
- Pour into silicone molds. Let harden fully overnight.
- After shampooing, rub the bar between your hands or directly onto wet hair. Focus on the mid-lengths and ends, leave on for 1-3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Notes
- Allow the bar to dry completely between uses to extend its life.
- This recipe is water-free, so a preservative is optional but recommended since the bar will be used in a wet environment.
