I’m very high-maintenance, but I also like to keep things simple and natural. I had some soap coloring at home, so I made a pink foaming hand soap and a regular white one.

Making your own foaming hand soap is a small step towards a more natural and intentional lifestyle. It’s quick, easy, and endlessly customizable.

Why Make Your Own Foaming Hand Soap

There are many great non-toxic brands available these days, which is amazing! I’m a big fan of Branch Basics, it’s a brand I really like and trust. However, buying pre-made non-toxic soaps can get expensive, especially since hand soap is something we use every single day.

Regular hand soaps often contain a long list of ingredients, including artificial colors and toxic chemicals that can be harmful to you and your family. There are many things to watch out for in conventional hand soaps, such as Triclosan, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium laureth sulfate (SLES), fragrance (parfum), phthalates, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives (e.g., DMDM Hydantoin, Quaternium-15), polyethylene glycol (PEG) compounds, artificial colors (e.g., FD&C or D&C dyes), cocamide DEA… I’m pretty sure you probably don’t know what most of these ingredients are or mean, and that is exactly the point.

This is why making your own soap is such a great idea. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also take a small yet impactful step toward improving your health and reducing your exposure to harmful toxins.

    Ingredients:

    Instructions:

    1. Add the Castile Soap

Grab your glass foaming soap dispenser and pour in 1/3 cup of liquid Castile soap. I used almond because it smells delicious, but rose is also a great option.

    2. Add Essential Oils – Optional

If you’re using essential oils, add about 10 drops. Lavender and tea tree are great for their antibacterial properties, while citrus oils like lemon or orange are perfect for a fresh, clean scent. If you’re using almond soap, you really don’t need essential oils. I added a little bit of vanilla essential oil, but it’s not necessary.

    3. Fill with Water:

Fill the rest of the bottle with water, leaving a little room at the top to avoid overflow.

    4. Add Soap Coloring – Optional

Add a drop or two of non-toxic soap coloring. If you like pink as much as I do, you’ll love the idea of making handmade foaming hand soap with colors like this pink one. Honestly, it looks so beautiful!

    5. Shake and Mix:

Close the bottle and give it a gentle shake to mix everything together. And that’s it!

If you like the labels I use on all of my recipes, I buy them on Amazon, and they are very inexpensive.

How to Customize Your Homemade Foaming Hand Soap

This recipe is highly customizable. Here are a few ideas to customize your foaming hand soap:

    1. Choose Your Scent
      • For a calming effect, try lavender or chamomile essential oils.
      • For an energizing boost, try citrus oils like lemon, orange, or grapefruit.
      • For a cozy, fall-inspired scent, opt for cinnamon and clove essential oils.
      • Want something floral? Go for rose or jasmine.
      • If you love sweet, warm scents, try adding vanilla or almond oils.
    2. Pick a Color
      • Add a drop or two of non-toxic soap coloring.
    3. Adjust the Consistency
      • If you prefer a thicker lather, add a bit more Castile soap. For a lighter foam, you can adjust the water-to-soap ratio.
    4. Add more Non-Toxic and Skin-Friendly ingredients
      • Add aloe vera gel
      • Try a few drops of vitamin E oil.
      • Add castor oil
    5. Make It Seasonal
      • Use seasonal scents to reflect the time of year. Cinnamon and clove for fall, peppermint for winter, or floral scents for spring and summer.
