There’s nothing better than sitting around a crackling fire on a chilly evening, right? Whether you’re camping, having a backyard fire pit night, or just love that cozy vibe, these DIY fire starters are a must-try. Not only are they super easy to make, but they also look gorgeous (almost too pretty to burn!) and give off the most amazing scent as they catch fire.
These little fire starters are made with beeswax, natural herbs, and spices like cinnamon and rosemary. and they’re customizable!

DIY Fire Starters
I love learning new skills and DIY projects that are both practical and make great gifts for my outdoorsy friends. Now that we’ve started camping and backpacking, these fire starters feel perfect for us. I like the idea of having natural, good-smelling fire starters on hand that make lighting a campfire so much easier.
Ingredients:
- Beeswax (about 2 cups)
- Cinnamon sticks
- Rosemary
- Star anise
- Pinecones
- Cupcake liners
- Muffin tin

Instructions:
1. Melt the Beeswax
Set up a double boiler and slowly melt about 2 cups of beeswax. Keep an eye on it and give it a gentle stir every now and then.

2. Prep Your Cupcake Liners
Place your cupcake liners into a muffin tin. This will help hold their shape and make pouring the beeswax way easier.

Want to save this for later?
3. Arrange the Herbs
For larger items like rosemary sprigs, cinnamon sticks, or pinecones, place them inside the cupcake liners before pouring in the beeswax.

4. Pour the Beeswax
Carefully pour the melted beeswax into each liner until it covers most of the herbs.

5. Add the Pretty Toppers
Sprinkle in the smaller, decorative elements like star anise on top while the wax is still warm. They’ll look beautiful and add a burst of fragrance.

6. Let Them Cool
Allow your fire starters to cool and harden completely before popping them out of the tin and cupcake liners.

Notes:
- Sage, pine needles, lint, orange peels, etc. are some other great ideas to put into the fire starts.
- Essential oils are optional, but can also help the fire smell better.
- You can use a candle wick to help start it up quickly as well.
- It is for outside fire use.
- I used about 2 cups of beeswax to get 6 fire starters.
