This is one of those recipes I keep coming back to because it’s simple, affordable, and smells like heaven. No complicated steps, no weird ingredients just a beautiful, natural vanilla soap you can make in under an hour.
This is one of those little DIYs that feels way fancier than it actually is. It’s also such a good option if you’re trying to move toward more natural products without overcomplicating everything.
If you’ve never made soap before, this vanilla soap recipe is the perfect one to start with.

Vanilla Soap Recipe:
this isn’t one of those super strong artificial vanilla scents. It’s more subtle and clean, which I personally love.
Ingredients:
Makes 2 rectangular soap bars
- Soap mold
- 1/2 lb melt and pour soap base
- 2 whole vanilla beans
- 10–15 drops essential oils (optional but recommended)

Instructions
1. Prep the Vanilla
Slice each vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the vanilla caviar (those tiny black seeds). Set aside both the seeds and the pods. You’ll use both.

2. Melt the Soap Base
Cut your melt and pour soap base into small cubes. Add it to a glass container along with the vanilla seeds and the empty pods.
Want to save this for later?

Melt slowly using:
- A double boiler or
- Microwave in 30-second intervals (stir between each)

You want everything fully melted and smooth.
3. Infuse + Add Scent
Let the mixture sit on low heat for about 10–15 minutes so the vanilla can infuse.
Remove the vanilla pods, then stir in your essential oils if you’re using them. This step helps boost the scent since vanilla alone is pretty subtle.

4. Pour and Let It Set
Carefully pour the mixture into your soap mold.
Optional but helpful: lightly spray with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles.
Let the soap harden for 2–4 hours, then unmold… and that’s it.

Notes:
- The scent is soft and natural. Essential oils help if you want it stronger
- The soap will darken over time because of the vanilla (totally normal) Store in a cool, dry place to keep it fresh
