This post is all about homemade toilet cleaner!

Making your own cleaning products might feel like a small change, and maybe you’re a little unsure about it, but it’s super satisfying and will make a big difference.

I’m sharing a super simple recipe for a homemade toilet cleaner that’s effective, natural, and so easy to make. Plus, it’s very cheap and a great way to cut down on unnecessary chemicals in your home.

Why Make Your Own Toilet Cleaner?

I get it, toilet cleaning isn’t exactly the most glamorous shore. But if you’re like me, you want to know exactly what’s in the products you’re using.

Many store-bought cleaners are loaded with harsh chemicals, and honestly, they’re not great for you, your family, or the environment. With this homemade toilet cleaner, you’ll feel good knowing it’s made with just a few simple, natural ingredients.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make about 16 ounces of this toilet cleaner:

How to Make It

1. Add essential oils:

Start by adding your essential oils to the baking soda. If you’re skipping the oils, you can move straight to step two. I love using lemon oil because it smells fresh and has natural cleaning properties, but feel free to use any scent you like.

2. Give it all a good mix:

Mix the baking soda and citric acid together until they’re well combined. That’s it! You now have a powerful, homemade toilet cleaner ready to use.

3. Store it in a glass jar!

I usually buy mine from the Dollar Tree, but you can find them on Amazon too.

How to Use Homemade Toilet Cleaner

Using this cleaner is as easy as making it. Just follow these steps:

  1. Add 1-2 tablespoons of the mixture directly to your toilet bowl.
  2. Wait about 10 minutes to let it work its magic.
  3. Scrub the bowl with your toilet brush and flush. Done!

Tips

  • The essential oils are totally optional. If you prefer an unscented cleaner, you can skip them altogether.
  • Store your toilet cleaner in an airtight container to keep it fresh and prevent any moisture from getting in.

Why Homemade Toilet Cleaner Works

This cleaner is a powerhouse because of its ingredients. Baking soda helps to gently scrub and deodorize, while citric acid tackles hard water stains and buildup. The optional essential oils add a lovely scent and can boost the cleaning power if you choose oils with antibacterial properties, like Lemon, tea tree or eucalyptus.

Once you try this DIY toilet cleaner, I think you’ll be hooked. It’s fast, easy, and effective. Plus, you’ll feel great knowing you’re using a product that’s safer for your family and the planet. Give it a try, and let me know how it works for you!
