I love a good non-toxic, all-natural swap, but I need it to actually work which is why I’m obsessed with this all-natural solid dish soap bar.
These days, more and more people are transitioning to dish soap bars because we’re realizing, myself included that liquid soap isn’t necessary. A bar works just as well and looks much more aesthetic in the kitchen.
I kept eyeing dish soap bars on Amazon for a while, but I couldn’t justify spending $15 on something I wasn’t sure I’d even like. So, I decided to try making my own first and I’m so glad I did! Not only did I save money, but I also learned how to make it and now have a recipe I can easily reuse, not just for myself but also for family and friends. It truly makes an amazing gift!
This dish soap bar is simple, effective, and smells so fresh with that hint of lime. Plus, you get the satisfaction of making something yourself.
Why Use a Solid Dish Soap Bar?
I used to think dish soap had to come in a bottle. But liquid dish soaps often have unnecessary chemicals, and they run out so fast. A solid dish soap bar lasts longer, is super easy to use, and bonus, it looks way cuter sitting by the sink.

Solid Dish Soap Bar Recipe
This recipe makes one dish soap bar, but you can easily double or triple it if you want extras.
Ingredients:
- 2.5 ounces melt-and-pour soap base (I used goat’s milk, but any kind works)
- 10-15 drops lime essential oil (or your fave)
- 1 tablespoon lime peel powder (or lemon/orange zest)
- Soap mold

Instructions:
1. Cut and Melt the Soap Base
Chop up your soap base into small chunks. Melt it in the microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring in between. (Don’t overheat it!)

2. Add the Lime Peel Powder
Let the melted soap base cool slightly, then mix in the lime peel powder.

3. Stir in the Essential Oils
Add the essential oils and keep stirring to ensure everything is evenly distributed.

4. Pour into the Mold
Carefully pour the mixture into your soap mold. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight until fully hardened.

5. Remove and Use
Once the soap is firm, pop it out of the mold, and it’s ready to use!

How to Use a Solid Dish Soap Bar:
Just get it wet, rub a dish brush or scrubber over it until you get some suds, and wash as usual.

Notes:
- You can swap out the lime peel powder for lemon or orange zest if you prefer.
- Any melt-and-pour soap base works, so use what you have!
- Essential oils are totally optional, but they make the whole thing smell amazing.
Dish Soap Bar Customizations:
If you want to make your solid dish soap bar more effective at cutting grease, you can tweak the recipe with these ingredients:
1. Add Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate)
- 1 teaspoon
- Washing soda is a natural degreaser that helps break down oils and grime.
2. Use Citrus Essential Oils
- Lemon, orange, or grapefruit essential oil
- Citrus oils are known for their grease-cutting properties.
3. Incorporate Vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of white vinegar
- Mix it in after melting the soap base, but stir quickly as it can slightly thicken the mixture.
- Vinegar helps dissolve grease and acts as a natural disinfectant.
4. Try a Coconut Oil-Based Soap Base
- Coconut oil soap has stronger cleansing properties than goat’s milk soap, making it better for grease removal.
This little dish soap bar has officially earned a permanent spot by my sink. No plastic, no weird ingredients, just a solid, hardworking soap that gets the job done.
