I recently noticed some red stretch marks showing up in my legs and found out that hyaluronic acid can actually help a lot with skin repair and hydration. But when I looked it up at the store, it was over $30 for a tiny bottle no thanks. So of course, I made my own. This DIY hyaluronic acid serum is simple, affordable, and actually works.
I’ve been testing this homemade hyaluronic acid serum and honestly it’s good. It’s lightweight, feels like nothing on the skin, and gives you the hydration without being greasy or sticky.
If you’ve been wanting to add hyaluronic acid into your routine without overcomplicating things, this is the perfect beginner recipe.

Hyaluronic Acid Serum Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1/8 teaspoon hyaluronic acid powder
- 1/2 teaspoon carrier oil (like jojoba, almond)
- 9 drops preservative (optional, but recommended if you’re not refrigerating it)
- 1/4 teaspoon glycerin
- 5 drops essential oil (optional)

Instructions
1. Bloom the Hyaluronic Acid
Sprinkle the hyaluronic acid powder into the water without stirring too much. It’s going to clumpand that’s okay! Let it sit for a few hours (or overnight) until it forms a gel-like texture. Then stir until smooth and no clumps remain.

2. Mix the Oils
If you’re using essential oils, add them to your carrier oil first. This helps dilute the essential oil properly and avoids any skin irritation.
Want to save this for later?

3. Combine Everything
Now mix your oil and glycerin blend into the hyaluronic acid gel. Stir slowly to combine everything into a smooth serum.

How to Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum:

Apply 2–3 drops to clean, dry skin preferably right before your moisturizer.
Notes
- You can skip the essential oil if your skin is sensitive. It’ll still be amazing.
- If you don’t use a preservative, store the serum in the fridge and use it within 1–2 weeks.
- With a preservative like Leucidal or Geogard ECT, it should last a few months at room temp.
- Make sure your hands and utensils are clean when making this to keep bacteria out.
