If you’re using a flat iron, blow dryer, or curling wand regularly, your hair needs a little love. Heat tools can leave strands dry, frizzy, and damaged if you’re not protecting them first. And while you can buy a heat protectant spray everywhere, many are expensive and packed with ingredients you can’t pronounce.
For the longest time, I pretty much gave up on heat styling no straighteners, no curling wands, just letting my hair do its thing. I’ve been all about nourishing it with my homemade rosemary water, oil serums, and my trusty tallow conditioner. But lately, I’ve been styling it a little more often and realized I needed something to help protect it from heat without undoing all the care I’ve been putting in. So I made this super simple DIY heat protectant spray, and honestly, I love it. It’s lightweight, doesn’t leave my hair greasy, and gives me a little peace of mind when I pull out the blow dryer or iron.
So, if you’re like me and prefer a simple, natural alternative, this DIY Heat Protectant Spray is everything. It’s lightweight, smells amazing, and takes less than 5 minutes to make. Plus, you probably already have most of the ingredients at home!

2. Combine All Ingredients
In a small bowl, mix the argan oil blend with coconut oil, conditioner, and distilled water.

3. Transfer to spray bottle
Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake well to help break up the conditioner.

4. Shake before each use
Oil and water separate naturally, so give your bottle a good shake every time before using.
To help the oil and water mix better, you can add a tiny bit (⅛ tsp) of a mild natural emulsifier like polysorbate 20. For a longer shelf life, add a preservative like Leucidal or Optiphen (follow usage rates on label) and store your spray in a cool, dry place.
