If you love making your own natural oils at home, calendula infused oil is one of those simple recipes that feels extra special. I love making calendula oil because It’s gentle, soothing, and good for dry skin, homemade balms and scrubs.

One of my favorite herbs is calendula, it’s just so pretty to look at but I totally get it if you’re not really into herbalism or if you have no idea what infused oils are or how to make them. Honestly, the real reason I’m sharing this recipe is because calendula oil is amazing for skincare. It’s natural, homemade, non-toxic, and so easy to make.

I’m currently a student at the Herbal Academy, and one my favorite courses so far is their botanical skincare course because I love creating my own skincare recipes, homemade makeup, and natural cleaning products, so it’s been a perfect fit for me. This calendula infused oil is one of those simple recipes that I always come back to and I think you’re going to love it too.

Instructions:

1. Start with Dried Calendula

Make sure your calendula is dried. Then add them to a jar, filling about half way.

Want to save this for later?

Send it to yourself now and try it out when you’re ready!

2. Add Your Carrier Oil

Now, pour your carrier oil over the flowers until they’re fully covered. You want the flowers completely submerged to avoid any spoilage. You can use any carrier oil, like jojoba, sweet almond, olive oil, or avocado oil!

3. Let It Infuse

Seal the jar and let it sit in a cool, dark place for about 6 weeks to slowly infuse. Give it a gentle shake every few days if you remember!

(Heat Method): If you don’t want to wait 6 weeks, you can make the calendula oil by gently heating the jar. Place the jar (with the lid off) into a small pot of water over very low heat, just warm enough to heat the oil without boiling it. Let it sit for 2–4 hours, making sure the water stays warm but not too hot. Always keep an eye on it!

4. Strain and Store

After your infusion is ready, strain out the flowers using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Pour the oil into a clean jar, dropper or bottle and that’s it. Your calendula infused oil is ready to use!

Notes:

  • Any carrier oil will work , it just depends on what you plan to use the infused oil for.
  • Make sure everything (your jar, your hands, your strainer) is super clean and dry to keep your oil fresh.
  • For the quick infusion, keep the heat low and never let the oil bubble or fry the flowers.
