I’m not the best at sewing, I wish I were, which is why I don’t do a lot of sewing DIY projects. That said, you can make a lavender eye pillow either by sewing it or not. I’ll show you both options and walk you through how to make lavender eye pillows at home.
These lavender eye pillows are perfect for relaxation, stress relief, or a calming night’s sleep. The lavender scent is incredibly soothing, and the rice (or flax seeds) adds a nice weight that rests gently on your eyes. Whether you use them for meditation, napping, or just unwinding at the end of the day, these pillows are amazing. You can also make them as a gift.

Lavender Eye Pillows
Ingredients
- 1 cup Lavender flowers
- 1 cup rice or flax seeds
- 8 drops lavender essential oil
- Around 1/4 yard fabric
- Fabric scissors

Instructions for a Sewn Lavender Eye Pillow
1. Cut Your Fabric Pieces
Start by cutting two pieces of fabric for each pillow. Each piece should measure 4.5 inches by 10.5 inches. If you want a larger pillow, just scale up the measurements. Remember, this is your DIY project—feel free to customize it!

2. Sew the Fabric Together
Now, place your two fabric pieces together with the right sides facing each other. This way, the design will show on both sides of the pillow when you’re finished. Sew along one long edge, and continue sewing around the other three sides with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Leave one short end open so you can fill the pillow later.

3. Mix Your Lavender Filling
In a separate bowl, combine the lavender buds, rice, and a few drops of lavender essential oil.
The rice is what gives the pillow its weight, while the lavender provides the soothing scent. I personally love adding the essential oil to give it an extra boost of fragrance. If you prefer, you can also use flax seeds instead of rice for a different texture.

4. Fill the Pillow
Using a funnel (or your hands), fill the pillow with the lavender-rice mixture. Make sure it’s mostly full but still has a little room to move around. This allows the pillow to mold to the shape of your face when you lie down with it.

Want to save this for later?
5. Sew the Open End
Once the pillow is filled, it’s time to close it up. Simply sew the open end shut to finish your pillow. Now, you’ve got yourself a cozy little lavender-filled relaxation tool!

No-Sew Lavender Eye Pillow with Fabric Tape
If you don’t have a sewing machine (or simply don’t want to sew), you can still make these lavender eye pillows using fabric tape. It’s super easy.
Step 1: Cut Your Fabric
Just like with the sewing method, cut two pieces of fabric, each measuring 4.5 inches by 10.5 inches.
Step 2: Use Fabric Tape to Seal the Sides
Place the two fabric pieces together with the right sides facing each other. Apply fabric tape along the long edges and three sides, leaving one short edge open for filling. Once you’ve applied the tape, use an iron to press over the tape, ensuring it sticks. Be sure to follow the tape instructions.
Step 3: Add the Lavender Filling
Mix your lavender buds, rice (or flax seeds), and lavender essential oil in a bowl. Then, fill the pillow with the mixture just like in the sewn version. If you’re using a funnel, this will be much easier!
Step 4: Seal the Open Edge with Fabric Tape
Once the pillow is filled, use more fabric tape to seal the open end. Press the tape down firmly, and again, use the iron to ensure it’s securely attached. Now, your no-sew lavender eye pillow is all set!
