This post shows you how to make oregano oil at home.
I’ll be honest, I never really thought about oregano oil until recently. I’ve always used olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil, but oregano oil? Never! Now that I’ve discovered it, I can’t believe how easy it is to make and how versatile it is. The aroma is unmistakably oregano (of course), and it’s quickly become one of my favorite DIY oils.
Why Oregano Oil?
Oregano oil is versatile and has so many uses. I’ve added it to homemade cleaning sprays, used it in DIY beauty products, and even incorporated it into some of my favorite recipes.
Oregano Oil Extract Recipe
This recipe makes about four ounces of oregano oil, and it’s as super easy to make. Here’s what you need:
Ingredients
- Fresh or dried oregano
- Olive oil (or your favorite carrier oil)

Instructions
1. Prepare the Jar:
Fill a clean glass jar halfway with oregano. If you’re using fresh oregano, make sure it’s completely dry to avoid any moisture that could spoil the oil.

2. Add the Oil
Pour olive oil over the oregano until it’s fully covered. Give the jar a good shake to make sure everything is well mixed.

3. Infuse the Oil
Store the jar in a cool, dark place for a few weeks, shaking it every few days. This allows the oil to absorb all the natural goodness from the oregano.

4. Strain and Store
Strain the oil through a fine mesh or cheesecloth into a clean bottle or jar. And there you have it, your homemade oregano oil is ready.

Notes
This oil has a shelf life of about a year if stored properly. Keep it in a cool, dark place to maintain its freshness. You can use it in DIY projects like homemade salves, scrubs, or as an addition to your favorite household recipes.
Making oregano oil isn’t just about the end product; it’s also about the process. There’s something deeply satisfying about creating something so useful with your own hands. It’s a small but meaningful way to bring a little more intention into your day.
If you’ve never tried making oregano oil, I hope this inspires you to give it a try. And if you’re already a fan, I’d love to hear how you use it.
