I recently shared my recipe for making natural laundry detergent powder, which has been my go-to recipe. This Homemade Laundry Pods recipe isn’t much different, except it includes vinegar, a great cleaning agent to help give it that compact pod form. I know some people prefer laundry pods, so I wanted to share this recipe.

Be careful with the amount of vinegar, though! If the mixture gets too wet, the pods won’t harden enough and will break in your hands.

    Homemade Laundry Pods Recipe

    💕Ingredients:

    Instructions:

    1. Mix your dry ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of washing soda.

    2. Add the essential oils

If you’re using them, add about 20 drops. This step is totally optional, but it does give your laundry that fresh, natural scent.

    3. Grate your soap

This is the most “effort” part of the process, but it’s need it! Once grated, add it to the mixing bowl.

    4. Slowly add vinegar

Pour in 1/4 cup at a time, mixing as you go. The reaction between the washing soda and vinegar will make a thick, paste-like consistency. I used about 1/2 cup total. Be careful with the amount of vinegar, If the mixture gets too wet, the pods won’t harden enough and will break in your hands.

    5. Pack into molds

Scoop the mixture into your ice cube trays, pressing firmly to ensure they hold together.

    6. Let them dry

Leave them out for at least 24 hours. If you want to speed up the process, placing them in the sun helps.

How to Use Your DIY Laundry Pods:

Add one or two pods to each laundry cycle. Toss it directly into the drum with your clothes. That’s it!

These work great on everyday laundry, and if you need a little extra cleaning power, you can always toss in a bit of baking soda or vinegar separately.

I love knowing exactly what’s in my laundry detergent and that I’m not exposing myself (or my clothes) to unnecessary chemicals. Plus, making these is honestly fun and super satisfying. Give it a try, and let me know how it works for you!
