Every once in a while, I love trying out new recipes, and this chickweed salve turned out so great! I’m obsessed with all its amazing benefits, and it makes the perfect thoughtful gift for friends who enjoy natural, homemade recipes as well.
If you’ve never heard of it, chickweed is an amazing little herb known for its soothing and healing properties. Perfect for dry skin, minor cuts, skin irritations, burns, to reduce inflammation, redness and even help with bug bites. I feel like this salve is a must-have in my home. And It was super easy to make!
I’m not a doctor, and honestly, I don’t make these kinds of recipes very often. I’m more into DIY natural cleaning and beauty products, but I’ve always been fascinated by how our ancestors used simple, natural remedies like this. It’s fun to experiment with some of those old-school methods and see how they still work today!
Chickweed Salve Benefits
Here are some of the benefits I love:
- Soothes irritation: Chickweed is known for calming and reducing inflammation and redness.
- Moisturizes dry patches: It’s amazing for hydrating rough or cracked skin. Think elbows, knees, or even your hands after a long day.
- Promotes healing: It’s gentle but effective for minor cuts, scrapes, or even rashes.
- All-natural care: No weird chemicals pure, plant-powered goodness.
Honestly, it’s one of those multitasking natural remedies you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again. Plus, it feels so satisfying knowing you made it yourself!
Ingredients

- Chickweed (fresh or dried works!)
- A carrier oil of your choice (I used olive oil)
- 1 cup of infused oil
- ¼ cup beeswax
- 20 drops of essential oils (optional)
- 2 oz containers for storage
How to Make Chickweed Salve
1. Infuse Your Oil
Grab a clean jar and fill it halfway with chickweed. Next, pour in your carrier oil until it completely covers the herb. Let it sit for a few weeks. Yes, weeks.
The waiting is the boring part, but it’s needed. Give it a good shake every few days to help the infusion process along. When you’re ready, strain out the herbs, and you’ve got your infused oil.

2. Melt the Beeswax
Combine your infused oil and beeswax in a glass jar. Put it in the microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly each time until everything is completely melted and mixed.

3. Add Essential Oils
Once your mixture has slightly cooled, not too hot, not too cold add in your essential oils. Feel free to customize it to your liking (or skip this step altogether).

4. Pour and Set
Carefully pour the mixture into your containers and let it sit overnight. This part is always satisfying because by morning, you’ll have perfectly hardened salve ready to use.

Notes:
- Any carrier oil works, almond, jojoba, or even grapeseed oil would be great alternatives. I used olive oil for this recipe. Â
- You can speed up the infusion process using a double boiler on low heat for a couple of hours.
- This recipe makes about 6 ounces.
There’s something so rewarding about creating something from scratch. Try it out and let me know how it goes, your skin will thank you!
