In this post I share my recipe for ginger lemon sugar scrub.

I’m obsessed with making all kinds of sugar scrubs, so I’ve decided to try creating as many as I can. I love knowing that I’m making something good for my skin, lips, hair, and overall health. Plus, I know exactly what’s in it, and it’s much more affordable! (Makes a great gift too)

Not only does this lemon sugar scrub smell absolutely amazing, but it’s also packed with skin-loving benefits. Plus, it’s super easy to make at home with just a handful of ingredients.

Why I Love This Ginger Lemon Sugar Scrub

  • Brown Sugar: A gentle exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.
  • Carrier Oil: Whether you choose coconut oil, olive oil, or jojoba oil, this is what hydrates your skin and locks in moisture.
  • Ginger: Packed with antioxidants, ginger helps brighten your skin and can even improve circulation.
  • Lemon Juice: Known for its astringent properties, lemon juice can help tone your skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots.
  • Essential Oils: These are optional, but they add a lovely fragrance and can enhance the scrub’s benefits. Some great options are lemon, ginger, or lavender essential oil.

The Recipe: Lemon Sugar Scrub

This recipe makes about 6-8 ounces of sugar scrub.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (I have also made this with regular white sugar)
  • 1/4 cup carrier oil (coconut oil, olive oil, or jojoba oil) I use pure, unrefined coconut oil for body sugar scrubs (it’s solid but I melt it).
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice and zest
  • 15-20 drops of essential oils (optional)

Instructions:

1. Add Your Essential Oils:

Add the essential oils (if using) to the carrier oil. I used melted coconut oil in this recipe

2. Prepare Your Ingredients

Grate your ginger (if using) as finely as possible and squeeze enough lemon juice to get 1 tablespoon. Adding lemon zest is optional but I highly recommended.

3. Mix Sugar and Oil:

In a bowl, combine the brown sugar and carrier oil. Stir until well blended.

4. Add Ginger and Lemon:

Mix in the grated ginger (if using) and lemon juice. Stir thoroughly to ensure everything is evenly distributed.

5. Store:

Transfer your scrub to an airtight container. For best results, keep it in the fridge and use it within two weeks, as the fresh ginger and lemon juice can spoil over time.

How to Use Your Lemon Sugar Scrub

  1. Start with damp skin.
  2. Scoop out a small amount of scrub and gently massage it onto your skin in circular motions.
  3. Focus on areas where you want extra exfoliation, like elbows, and knees.
  4. Rinse off with warm water and pat your skin dry.

Your skin will feel incredibly smooth and refreshed.

This sugar scrub looks so delicious, I almost want to eat it!

Notes and Tips

  • If you prefer, you can leave out the ginger altogether, and the scrub will still be effective and have that lovely sweet citrus scent.
  • Essential Oils: Feel free to skip these if you prefer a more natural scent.
  • Carrier Oils: Experiment with different oils to see which one your skin loves most.I know many people are allergic to coconut oil, so you can try using olive oil instead.
  • Storage: Because this scrub contains fresh ingredients, it’s best to store it in the fridge and use it within two weeks.

Making your own lemon sugar scrub is a simple, satisfying way to care for your skin. I hope you enjoy this Ginger Lemon Sugar Scrub as much as I do!
