if you’re looking for a simple, all-natural, and super effective DIY makeup remover, you’ll love this recipe. This tallow-based recipe is gentle, nourishing, and does an amazing job at melting away makeup, even stubborn waterproof mascara. Plus, it’s packed with skin-loving oils that help keep your skin soft and hydrated.
Why Tallow?
Tallow is rich in vitamins and closely resembles our skin’s natural oils, making it ultra-moisturizing and gentle. It’s been used for centuries in beauty routines, and once you try it, you’ll see why!
To be honest, the first time I tried tallow, I was skeptical. The idea of using beef fat on my face felt a little strange, but I quickly fell in love with it! It’s deeply nourishing, and my skin has never felt softer. I know tallow doesn’t work for everyone, and that’s totally okay.
I personally buy my favorite tallow from Etsy, but you can easily find it on Amazon. I’ve always wanted to make my own beauty products, and this DIY makeup remover is one of those products I always dreamed of creating and I finally made it! honestly, I think I’ll never go back to buying makeup removers again.

DIY Makeup Remover Recipe
This recipe makes about 4-5 ounces.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon castor oil
- 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1/2 tablespoon vitamin E oil
- 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
- 1/2 cup tallow
- 3 drops essential oil (if using)

Instructions:
1. Melt the Tallow & Coconut Oil
In a glass container, add the tallow and coconut oil. Melt them together using a double boiler on medium-low heat. This ensures a smooth, even consistency without burning the oils.

2. Add in the Other Oils
Once everything is melted, remove from heat and stir in the castor oil, vitamin E oil, and jojoba oil. These oils help break down makeup while nourishing your skin.

3. Add Essential Oils (Optional)
If you’re using essential oils, add just a few drops, USE ONLY skin-friendly options like lavender for a calming effect. Avoid stronger oils like peppermint, as they can irritate your skin. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to skip the essential oils altogether.

4. Let It Set & Stir Again
Let the mixture sit at room temperature until it solidifies. Once it hardens, give it one last mix before transferring it to your container of choice.

How to Use Natural Make Up Remover
Scoop out a small amount and massage it onto your dry face. It will melt into your skin and dissolve your makeup. Use a warm, damp washcloth to gently wipe everything away. Follow up with your favorite cleanser if needed.
Notes:
- Essential oils are optional. If using, only add a few drops and make sure they are not powerful ones that can hurt your eyes. I use lavender essential oil. Stay away from peppermint.
- You can use herbs infused oils or tallow as well!
And that’s it! A simple, effective, and all-natural makeup remover that leaves your skin feeling fresh and hydrated without harsh chemicals.
