This week, I’m experimenting with all kinds of French green clay recipes, yesterday I shared the French Clay Soap Recipe with Printable Labels for Gifting and today, I made a French green clay face mask. I tried it tonight, and now I see why clay masks keep popping up on my Pinterest feed, they’re amazing, especially for unwinding in the evening.
I know I’m biased because this is my blog, but there’s something so relaxing about applying a french green clay face mask, especially in the evening. It feels like a mini spa treatment at home, and who doesn’t need a little relaxation after a long day? So, I thought I’d share my super simple recipe, and I think you’ll love it too!
I decided to keep it easy and minimalist with just three ingredients. This is one of those recipes you can make quickly after your kids go to bed, yet it still leaves your skin feeling refreshed and pampered. Plus, you can customize it if you want!
Why a French Green Clay Mask?
I know, you might be wondering, what’s so special about French green clay? Well, it’s super powerful when it comes to detoxifying the skin. It’s naturally rich in minerals like silica, calcium, and magnesium, which help draw out impurities and balance oil production.
Plus, it’s great for soothing inflammation, which is why it’s perfect for relaxing your skin at the end of a busy day. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, this mask can be especially beneficial. It’s gentle enough for most skin types.
Another great thing I love about French green clay is that you can buy it on Amazon for $6 and use it for all sorts of things. You can make different face masks, create exfoliating scrubs, make your own shampoo bars, detoxifying body wraps, soothing foot scrubs, bar soaps, and bath soaks. The possibilities are endless!
French Green Clay Face Mask Recipe
Ingredients
This makes around 2 ounces.
- 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
- 1 tablespoon French green clay
- 1 drop of essential oil (optional). Essential oils are always optional. If you think you may be sensitive to them, skip them.

Instructions:
1. Mix the essential oil into the aloe vera gel:
If you’re using essential oils, add them to the aloe vera gel first and give it a good mix. Essential oils can help boost the mask’s skin benefits and give you a calming scent for your at-home spa moment. (I went with lavender for relaxation, but feel free to get creative!)

2. Combine with the French green clay:
Slowly stir in the French green clay until it forms a smooth paste. You want it thick enough to spread easily, but not too runny.

3. Use immediately:
This mask is best when it’s fresh, so make it just before applying it to your face. No need to store it!
How to Use French Green Clay Face Mask at Home
- Gently apply the mask to your face, making sure to avoid your eyes and lips.
- Wait for the clay to dry and harden (usually around 10-15 minutes). During this time, feel free to sit back, relax, and let the mask work its magic.
- Once it’s dry, rinse it off with warm water. You’ll notice your skin feels softer and deeply cleansed. It’s like hitting the reset button for your face.

If you like these little jars you can find them on Amazon.
Notes:
- Essential oils are optional. If you don’t have any or just prefer to avoid them, you can skip them. Aloe vera gel and French green clay alone are still amazing for your skin.
- You can always swap out the aloe vera gel for water or apple cider vinegar if that’s what you have on hand. I prefer aloe vera because it’s soothing and hydrating, but water or vinegar work just fine.
Not only does this mask leave your skin feeling fresh and clean, but the whole experience, sitting back, letting the clay dry, and just zoning out is incredibly relaxing. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to treat your skin and unwind, I highly suggest giving this recipe a go.
Let me know how it goes if you try it! 💚
