This French green clay soap turned out so beautifully that I’m planning to give it to my family and friends as thoughtful handmade gifts.
I have been making a lot of recipes with clay ever since I ordered a packet of various types of clay from Amazon. I am amazed by the many uses of clay and all its benefits.
Sometimes, I wish I had more time to take photos and share my recipes here faster. The other day, I made a Lavender Purple Brazilian Bentonite Clay Mask, and you can find the recipe right here on the blog!

Now that I’ve gotten distracted and I’m back, let’s continue with the benefits.
1. Deep Cleansing and Detoxification:
French clay draws out impurities, toxins, and excess oil from the skin, leaving it refreshed and deeply cleansed.
2. Oil Balance:
It helps regulate sebum production, making it ideal for oily and acne-prone skin types.
3. Exfoliation:
The fine texture of french clay gently exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells and promoting a smoother complexion.
4. Pore Minimizing:
By cleansing and tightening the pores, green clay improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of large pores.
5. Soothing and Calming:
It has a calming effect on the skin, helping to reduce redness and irritation, making it suitable for sensitive or inflamed skin.
6. Anti-Aging Properties:
By improving elasticity and removing toxins, green clay can contribute to a firmer, more youthful-looking skin appearance over time.
Besides all these benefits, I also love that French clay is a natural and beautiful way to add color to my skincare recipes. You can create pink soaps with pink French clay, blue or red with other varieties, it’s just so amazing!
French Green Clay Soap Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons French green clay
- 1 lb vegetable glycerin melt-and-pour soap base
- 20 drops of essential oil (optional): Lavender, eucalyptus, or rose are great options for a calming scent.
- Soap mold

Instructions:
1. Prep Your Soap Base
Chop your glycerin soap base into smaller chunks. This helps it melt faster and more evenly.

2. Melt It Down
Place the chunks in a microwave-safe glass container and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted.
3. Add the Green Clay
Stir in the French green clay. For a perfectly smooth blend, mix the clay with a bit of isopropyl alcohol before adding it to the soap base.

4. Infuse with Essential Oils
If you’re using essential oils, now’s the time to add them. Stir well to distribute the scent evenly.

5. Pour and Set
Pour the mixture into your soap mold and let it sit for a few hours until completely hardened. Once set, pop the soaps out of the mold and admire your handmade creations!

Notes
- Make It Your Own: Swap the glycerin base for another melt-and-pour soap base like shea butter or goat milk if you prefer.
- Skip the Scents: Essential oils are optional, so feel free to go fragrance-free if you like.
- Gift Ready: Wrap these soaps in kraft paper or tuck them into reusable gift bags for the perfect handmade present.
